Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program (PGP) 2019

 

The immigration authority of Canada has started to invite applications for the Parent and Grandparent Program. Through this program, the permanent residents and citizens of Canada can sponsor their parents or/and grandparents for permanent residency in Canada.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plan to invite ample sponsors to obtain 20,000 complete visa applications this year. 

With all the benefits, this program includes the right to work and live in Canada without any restriction on time, location, or sector. Additionally, they also get publicly-funded health care services. 

Process To Apply for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program Canada

The first step towards sponsoring your parents or grandparents is to fill the interest to sponsor form. Prior to this, you ll get a confirmation number, which you have to keep safe for records and to check your eligibility.  After reviewing the submission, IRCC sends out invitations to submit a complete application.

The second step is to check your e-mail for the application package, which includes:

  • The document checklist for you and your sponsored persons
  • Forms which needs to be filled by you and your sponsored persons
  • An instruction guide to help you fill out the forms accurately

If you are submitting the interest to sponsor form and you get an invitation to submit a completed visa application, then you can sponsor your parents and grandparents for becoming the permanent residents of Canada.

In the next step, IRCC processes your application, where immigration officers review your sponsorship application and rejects it, if:

  • The application is incomplete
  • The application fees are not paid
  • You were not invited for submitting the application

If IRCC begins processing your application, they ll:

  • Send an application number and acknowledgment of receipt
  • Review your eligibility as a sponsor
  • Review the eligibility of a person you’re sponsoring for Canadian PR

If you are applying for parents and grandparents sponsorship program Canada, you must:

  • Financially support them and their dependents
  • Ensure that they don’t require any social assistance from the Canadian government 

To sponsor your parents and grandparents, you have to fulfill the following criteria:

  • You have been 18 years or above
  • You must be living in Canada
  • You are a Canadian Citizen, a Canadian Permanent Resident, or registered under the Canadian Indian Act
  • You have sufficient funds to support the people you sponsor
  • You have to provide proof of funds/income

 

Criteria for people living outside Quebec:

To sponsor a person, you have to promise that you ll financially support those people who you are sponsoring and Canada government takes it as an undertaking.

This undertaking obligates you to:

  • Provide financial support to the sponsored family members for over 20 years, from the day they become Canadian permanent residents
  • Repay any provincial social assistance or money that your sponsored family gets from the government during the sponsorship period

You and your sponsored parents and grandparents also need to submit sponsorship agreement, that means:

  • You will provide funds for your parents and grandparents basic needs
  • The sponsored person will also make efforts towards financially supporting themselves

Who can’t sponsor their parents and grandparents

Following are the cases when you cannot make use of the Sponsorship program Canada, if:

  • You are less than 18 years old
  • Your primary residential address is not Canada while submitting your application
  • You are not a permanent resident, citizen or registered under the Canadian Indian Act
  • You are Canada s temporary resident with a visiting, working or studying visa or permit
  • Your PR application is still in the process
  • Your proof of income shows insufficient funds to support the persons you sponsor

You cannot be eligible to sponsor your parents or grandparents if you:

  • Have a criminal background or been in prison or jail
  • Didn t pay back an immigration loan, a performance bond or court-ordered payments for family support like alimony
  • Didn’t provide the promised financial support as stated in the sponsorship agreement
  • Have been declared bankrupt
  • Obtain social assistance for some other reason except disability
  • Were found guilty for a violent criminal offence against any relative or a sexual offence
  • Cannot stay in Canada legally and have to leave the country due to the removal order
