How to Apply for Canada PR Visa When CRS Score is Below 400 Points?

Canada’s point based organized immigration system and lenient immigration policy attracts worldwide immigrants to apply permanent residency. However, not everyone who applies get success and get rewarded with the PR visa.

Many Expression of Interests (EOIs) remain pending in the Federal Express Entry immigration system of Canada for ages. This mainly happens with the applicants with low immigration point score or CRS score.

What is CRS Point System of Express Entry?

Canada’s Federal immigration program, i.e. Express Entry System is based on a point system called Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This system allocates the points to applicants based on six selection factors, i.e.

  • Age
  • Education
  • Work Experience
  • Language proficiency (English/French)
  • Adaptability
  • Arranged Employment

The applicants who score heavily based on these factors get the Invitation to Apply for Canadian permanent residency from IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada). The IRCC launch a draw twice a month to choose the top ranking applicants and announce cut off for each draw.

However, candidates who are not able to match or exceed the cut off remain in the Express Entry pool till the time their account expires, i.e. after 12 months.

Then, they have to create a new profile again in the EE System, which is free of course. As per the last Express entry draw, the CRS score requirement or qualifying marks announced by IRCC were 442 CRS points or more. But, what if your CRS score is below 400 marks? Can you still get the Canada PR invitation? Let’s find out.

How to Apply for Canada PR Visa with CRS Score below 400?

Well, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are the best pathway to obtain Canada PR when your CRS score or point score is low. There are many Provincial Nominee Programs in Canada, which accepts the applicants even with low point score:

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) pathway

Recently, Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) - the popular PNP of Ontario province of Canada has announced that it will invite the applicants with CRS score below 400 points under its Express Entry- Human Capital Priorities Stream.

OINP- Express Entry- Human Capital Priorities Stream

As the title suggests, this OINP stream is aligned with federal express entry system. It allows the Ontario to select and notify the applicants in Express Entry pool, who meet the criteria of the stream.

If you have received the notification of interest from Ontario in your express entry account, you can apply in its OINP- Express Entry- HCP stream.

How it Works to Get Canada PR?

If you apply and get selected for provincial nomination, you will become eligible to get additional 600 CRS points in express entry system. Such huge additional CRS points will help you obtain the ITA (Invitation to Apply) for Canadian permanent residency from IRCC in quick time.

Once you get the invitation, you need to submit the complete Canada PR Application and follow the rest of the process as any other express entry candidate who get the ITA.

Other PNPs also Accept Applicants with Low Immigration Points

The other Provincial Nominee Programs of Canada also accept the applicants with low CRS score, i.e. Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP), etc.

You may coordinate with any genuine and registered Canadian immigration consultant to check your eligibility for the most appropriate PNP, and apply in the same to obtain PR in Canada.
