Ontario and Quebec Leading Canada Employment Boom in August

March 25 , 2020 By Rajneesh Kumar

Ontario and Quebec Province Lead Way to Canada Employment Gain in August Month

According to a new Labour Force Survey done by Statistics Canada, there has been a major employment boom recorded in August. This boom in the employment sector is led by 2 provinces of Canada, naming, Ontario, and Quebec in August.

According to Statistics Canada, employment has increased for both part-time and full-time work by 2% 4.8 % respectively.

In August 2019, Ontario s employment has increased by 58,000 in part-time jobs. These gains were led majorly by retail and wholesale trade. With every passing year, Ontario s employment number has grown up to 250,000, i.e. 3.5 % hike.

As per the Statistics Canada s report, “Employment in Quebec rose for the second consecutive month, up 20,000 in August. There were gains in a number of industries, led by finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing.”

The other provinces that recorded a notable rise in employment are Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, and Manitoba. Employment in Saskatchewan’s has increased by 2,800, in New Brunswick, there is a rise of 2,300 jobs and Manitoba is up 5,200.

This significant rise has been recorded in three key industries, including finance, real estate (rental and leasing) and insurance. Total 22,000 new jobs have been created in the month of August, with a consecutive rise of 46,000.

Additionally, in the month of August, Canada saw a rise of 109,000 in scientific, technical and professional services as well in August, primarily in British Columbia. It marked a hike of 7.4% in comparison to August 2018 figures.

Important: Settle Down in Canada from India

Employment numbers have also spiked for educational services in Quebec by 2.6%, i.e. 35,000 in comparison to last year figures.

While, one sector which saw a downfall majorly in Ontario and B.C. is business, building, and related support services, with less than 22,000 workers in these sectors.

Well, such a spike in employment opportunities is undeniably very good news. However, there is conflict about how long this growth will sustain. Accordingly to Bank of Canada, "this increase in employment indicates a certain amount of resilience to global trade headwinds, giving the central bank ammunition to buck the global easing trend.”
