Canada is Ready for the Immigration Application Surge as Containment Measures Eases

As per federal officials, Canada is expecting a ‘significant surge’ in the number of immigration applications as global travel restrictions ease and would put a ‘tremendous demand’ on the Canada government's resources.

According to a new tender document released the federal government, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) would move to a complete overhaul as to how it processes all the applications to better cope with the upcoming rush.

The IRCC must take into consideration a range of process updates, including immigration interviews, paper applications, and a computer system modernization.

This overhauling and preparation can help the Canadian immigration authority better handle the expected rise in applications for the post-pandemic situation.

The IRCC's vision

Once the immigration operations will return to normal, the department is supposed to follow a different policy, procedures, and digital solutions to handle the post-pandemic spike.

Thus, the IRCC is seeking to be proactive and develop new strategies, digital systems, and processes to enable the department to better meet the mandate.

The IRCC, for instance, would utilize digital processes as much as possible to minimize the requirement of in-person or on-paper processes.

This would eventually protect the safety and security of not only the IRCC official and the public as well.  Moreover, this would also bring more effectiveness and efficiency in application processing.

As per the tender, the following are the requests:

  • IRCC needs to act quickly
  • Develop updated and new strategies
  • Develop processes and digital systems to cope with the upcoming changes

As per the official document, the IRCC is looking for a contractor who can support its modernization efforts to:

  • Develop digital intake solutions to reduce paper-based and physical presence requirements and to process with digital alternatives, like, Physical Distancing Required Digital Tools including, online citizenship testing, virtual interviewing, and more.
  • Implement Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to automate high volume processes
  • Provide data analytics solutions for better insights into processing capacities and operational volumes to allow IRCC effectively respond to rapid upcoming changes
  • Develop strategies to strengthen Cybersecurity strategy and services
  • Including the provision of technology solutions to better integrate digital tools and solutions IRCC's legacy case management system environment
  • Include the provision of advisory services to manage and respond to current operational challenges as a result of the pandemic

Canada Stands Tall to its Commitment to Welcome over 1 Million Immigrants by 2022

As per Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan 2020-2022, the country has targeted to welcome over one million immigrants in the three years time span.

The Covid-19 pandemic has slowed immigration intake to Canada in 2020, but as per immigration minister Marco Mendicino, Canada is committed towards welcoming newcomers to support them as well as country's economy.

Amid the pandemic and temporary travel restriction, it is evident that both federal and provincial governments are still holding Express Entry and PNP draws and are processing both study and work permits along with enabling the immediate family of Canadian PR holders and citizens enter the country.
