Canada Open Work Permit

Canada starts New Open Work Permit for USA H-1B visa holders

In a pioneering move, the government of Canada has launched a new Open Work Permit (OWP) for the H-1B visa holders in USA. Canada is accepting applications for the OWP from H-1B visa holders in the United States. This is excellent opportunity for skilled workers seeking new opportunities for their careers and a chance to experience life in Canada.

The H-1B holders can apply for Open Work Permit from July 16, 2023 , which provide them with the liberty to work in Canada for a period of up to 3 years. To seize this opportunity, interested applicants need to act swiftly, as the IRCC has set a cap of either 1 year or 10,000 applications , whichever comes first.

The benefits of this program are tremendous as it also allows the inclusion of immediate family members, such as, Spouses or common-law partners, as well as dependent children. These family members can apply to come to Canada with the primary applicant. Depending on their circumstances, family members can apply for visitor, student, or worker status in Canada. Alternatively, they may join their loved ones in Canada as family members of highly skilled workers.

The program identifies the valuable contributions that H-1B visa holders can make to Canada s flourishing economy and varied cultural landscape.

Once your OWP application is approved, you will get a "Port of Entry Letter of Introduction." This document plays a key role in your journey to Canada. It is vital to have this letter with you when you arrive in Canada. Present the same when you arrive at the designated port of entry. This letter works as proof that you have received the OWP and shows your eligibility to enter the country.

However, it s crucial to note that the Port of Entry Letter of Introduction is not your authentic work permit. Rather, it acts as a predecessor to the issuance of your genuine work permit.

The POE Letter of Introduction is your entry pass to Canada, while the official Canadian work permit is the document that formally authorizes your employment. You must keep the above-mentioned documents safe and readily available during your journey, as they are necessary for a successful move into the Canadian workforce.
