Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) Latest Update

As per the program delivery update released by IRCC on April 7, 2022, the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP), which came into effect on January 1, 2022, is a permanent residence pathway for skilled foreign workers and international graduates from a Canadian institution who wish to live and work in any one of the Atlantic provinces, i.e.,

  • New Brunswick
  • Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Nova Scotia and
  • Prince Edward Island

New Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

The New AIP came into effect on January 1, 2022, replacing the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Programs (AIPP), which closed on December 31, 2021.

Subsequently, IRCC started accepting AIP applications on March 6, 2022, as the Ministerial Instructions (MIs) expired on March 5, 2022, and IRCC had entirely stopped accepting AIPP applications on March 5, 2022.

What is new Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)?

The AIP is an economic program that targets foreign workers who have a job offer in Canada s Atlantic region, who have an endorsement by an Atlantic province and who meet minimum criteria for education, work experience and language proficiency.

Who is eligible to apply under AIP?

Those foreign nationals who can economically establish themselves in Atlantic Canada, have a genuine intention to live in an Atlantic region province, and meet all of the below-mentioned criteria can qualify under AINP.

  • Provincial endorsement by an Atlantic province
  • At least 1-year post-secondary education in Canada or an educational credential assessment (ECA) is studied outside Canada.
  • Minimum CLB 5 in English or French for NOC skill level 0, A or B or CLB 4 for NOC skill level C
  • At least 1 year of full-time work experience gained in the last 5 years or an equal amount of part-time, i.e., at least 1,560 hours at NOC skill type O, A, B or C.
