Brandon (Manitoba) Start Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

Brandon- the city of Manitoba, Canada has launched the local component of popular Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot. Now, among all 11 participating communities of the pilot, three are accepting the applications from the interested candidates. At now, the participating communities in the pilot are from the key Canadian provinces, i.e. Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia.

Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) is a 5year pilot program designed to fulfill the skill shortage in the rural communities of the country. It provides a way for both foreign skilled workers and employers in 11 communities (facing skill shortage), meets each other. These communities have been selected based on various parameters, i.e. their size, location, job opportunities and ability to assist newcomers to get settled in Canada.

The people interested to apply in the pilot need to have an eligible offer of full-time, permanent employment in one of the 11 communities participating in the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP). Moreover, only those applicants, who get a Community Recommendation through the RNIP, can apply for permanent residency in Canada. The SNIP has an annual target of admitting 2,750 principal applicants along with their families for permanent residence in a year.

Communities Participating in Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

There are a total of 11 communities participating in the RNIP, i.e.

  • North Bay, Ontario
  • Sudbury, Ontario
  • Timmins, Ontario
  • Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
  • Thunder Bay, Ontario
  • Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
  • Claresholm, Alberta
  • Vernon, British Columbia
  • West Kootenay (Trail, Castlegar, Rossland, Nelson), British Columbia

The RNIP is a community-driven pilot program, which means the participating communities hold the driving seat in terms of luring new immigrants or temporary overseas workers already in Canada and linking them with available employment agencies in the mentioned regions.

How to Apply Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot?

The pilot process varies from community to community. Talking about Brandon, Manitoba, the applicants interested in applying first need to create a user profile and then apply for relevant jobs listed by RNIP. The open jobs in the list now are Master Dental Technician, Drafting Technician, and few jobs in the meat-processing industry, etc.

Application submitted by the applicant is assessed by the Economic Development Corporation of the city of Brandon and applicants fulfilling the minimum requirements for skills, education and work experience are sent to the relevant employers.

Candidates reviewed by the employer and selected candidates get a qualifying full-time, permanent job offer. Further, the applicants with an employment offer can then apply for a Community Recommendation from Brandon. The best ranking applications for a Community Recommendation are assessed on every month and are either approved, put on hold or rejected. Approved applicants in RNIP for a Community Recommendation, can apply for permanent residence to IRCC.
