The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Marco Mendicino announced the opening of the 2020 Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program.

This announcement has been done with an aim to further support Canada’s commitment towards family reunification.

All those Canadian citizens and permanent residents who wish to sponsor their eligible parents and grandparents can now submit their interest to sponsor application form online.

The program is open for 3-weeks, i.e. from 13th October 2020 (12 p.m. EDT) to 3rd November 2020 (12 p.m. EST).

This decision will help a lot of families to reunite, especially during such difficult times. The Parents and Grandparents Program 2020 will prioritize the approval of approximately 49,000 family sponsorship applications by the end of December 2020.

As per the information shared by the IRCC on 5th October 2020, up to 10,000 family sponsorship applications will be accepted for further processing under 2020 PGP intake.

While, in 2021, the IRCC will launch a new PGP 2020 interest to sponsor forms where up to 30,000 new applications will be accepted.

Canada Parents & Grandparents Program- Selection Criteria

The IRCC has planned to select and invite eligible sponsors randomly to submit their sponsorship applications.

The concept behind this selection process is to ensure transparency and accuracy of the process so that each applicant will get an equal opportunity.
