In 2018, 50 percent more Indians got citizenship in Canada.

In the year 2018, the upsurge of about 50% noticed in the number of Indians acquiring citizenship in Canada. The data were compared for months January to October in 2017 and 2018. Last year (in the whole calendar year), total 9,992 people of Indian origin, got the Canadian citizenship, whereas, this year, till October month close to 15,000 people obtained citizenship in the maple leaf country.

As per the statistics shared by IRCC, total 1.39 lakh permanent residents in Canada received the citizenship with 11 percent of them being the people of Indian origin. Among the top countries by birth (taking most number of Canadian citizenships in 2018), Philippines leads the tally, while India being at 2nd position, followed by Iran and China.
