Canadian Provinces Continue with their Immigration Operations amid Covid-19

Despite temporary travel restrictions imposed due to Coronavirus, the entire pandemic scenario has not been able to stop Canada's immigration proceedings.

Canadian federal government, as well as the provincial government, are still holding regular invitation rounds to invite candidates to apply for permanent residency.

Many provincial nomination programs (PNPs) are conducting draws despite arrival and departure restrictions and have sent out a large number of invitations, which is a positive sign for thousands of aspiring immigrants dreaming to move to Canada.

Canada is taking several measures for accommodating migrants despite COVID-19 and even amidst travel ban, the government has made a lot of exemptions.

Some of the notable provinces in Canada that have been conducting draws during a pandemic are as follows:

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program- OINP

In the last few months, OINP has conducted 3 draws to target Entrepreneurs, Tradespeople and French Speakers. These were the targeted occupations in the latest draws.

The highlights are:

  • 549 NOIs issued to candidates under French-Speaking Skilled Workers stream
  • 1440 NOIs issued to candidates under Human Capital Priorities stream
  • 190 NOIs issued to candidates under Skilled Trades stream

Please note, so far in 2020, OINP has issued 2,179 NOIs and all the interested candidates may apply for Canada PR in 2020 through OINP.

Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program- AINP

Alberta has been the most active province in 2020 and has invited 1,207 candidates so far in 2020 in a total of 8 AINP draws.

Alberta's express entry system stream is one of the most popular Canada PR pathways as it invites candidates with the Comprehensive Ranking System score as low as 300 points.

AINP is currently taking special measures to combat the situation and is providing the utmost flexibility to the candidates for application submission.

The province has so far issued a total of 1969 invitations under the mentioned two categories in regular SINP draws.

The most recent SINP draw that was held at the onset of Covid-19 has invited 205 applicants from a total of 71 occupations for provincial nomination.

British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program- BC PNP

British Columbia province has also been highly active during this time and has announced regular invitation rounds especially under the tech sector.

The province held regular draws with 29 eligible occupations and has invited applicants from Skilled immigration and BC Express Entry as well.

Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program - MPNP

The MPNP has imposed a lot of travel restrictions since 18th March and has conducted a total of 9 draws conducted so far in 2020 where 1808 Letter of Advice to Apply has been issued.

In all 9 draws, MPNP targeted its key categories including, Skilled Workers in Manitoba, Skilled Workers Overseas, and International Education and has also invited a few Express Entry candidates in each draw.

Nova Scotia Nominee Program- NSNP

NSNP's Labour Market Priority Stream and Nova Scotia Demand- Express Entry category B are the most popular categories under NSNP.

Recently, the Nova Scotia province had conducted a draw on 27th April 2020. In this draw, French-speaking applicants were invited to apply for provincial nomination.

By looking at the most recent and highly active PNPs as well as regular Express Entry draws by IRCC, it is evident that Canada is holding true to its stance of welcoming a large number of newcomers as per its immigration level plan 2020-2022.
